1st Team vs Bury GSOB

Off the back of the first win of the season, the saints headed over to Bury for a local derby.

A quiet first half from both teams, with the saints not getting into their stride playing football on a tight pitch. The best of the chances of the first half fell to Bury, when their striker was slipped through 1 v 1 only to be denied by a strong Murphy hand down low to his right.

Our best chance of the half came through well worked football with Si Riley baring down on goal, but a tame effort was collected by the keeper.

The second half remained a cagey affair, and the deadlock was broken from a set piece. Nuttall whipped the ball it and Riley was too strong for the opposition as he planted the ball in the net.

Bury got themselves a goal with 10 minutes to go which could’ve changed the momentum, until a piece of magic from Riley won the game.

As the referee blew his whistle for kick off, Riley spun on the ball and shot, catching Burys keeper out and knocking the wind out of their sails. From then, we limited Bury’s chances and kept the ball well, in a game that wasn’t great viewing, but the 3 points on the board which was required.
