3rd vs Lymm

Yesterday the third team travelled to Lymm away looking to bounce back to good form.

Starting on the front foot the team was in control of possession and creating consistent chances on goal. A threat in behind and from great deliveries into the box on set pieces. A great ball through to Cliffe that turned their defence around running back to their goal saw him clean through, playing a square ball across the six yard box Tom Tobias put the ball in the back of the net, only for it to be riles offside. However this showed that the lads made a great start.

Against the run of play we were caught out playing a high line, beating the offside trap Lymm were able to capitalise with a clinical finish.

Showing great character to keep pushing and confidence that persistence will pay off the performance levels didn’t drop at all. The midfield trio were combining well in possession and winning all of their battles. The team created numerous more chances and it was only a matter of time until it paid off. Playing on the shoulder of the centre halves, Cliffe broke free, carrying the ball into the box and clinically finishing one on one, through the on-rushing goalkeeper's legs.

The team sensed an opportunity for a deserved winner and continued to attack. A header from Mike McNicholas was cleared off the line in the final moments. Yet despite being camped in their final third for the remainder of the game, it wasn't to be.

It was a solid team performance that provides a great platform to push on.
